Giap Nguyen is Visa’s Head of Government Engagement for Vietnam and Laos, responsible for the development and execution of Visa’s government engagement strategy for Vietnam and Laos by constructively engaging with government, regulatory bodies, public sector agencies, and related stakeholders to position Visa as a partner and enable Visa’s current and future business.

Prior to joining Visa, Giap spent ten years working at the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and four years at BowerGroupAsia (BGA), one of the foremost business advisory firms focusing on government affairs in Vietnam. He has a deep understanding of the legal framework and policies that underpin the financial services sector in Vietnam. Between 2008- 2018, Giap worked as a legal expert at the SBV where he participated in the drafting process of key regulations such as the Law on State Bank of Vietnam and the Law on Deposit Insurance. He also reviewed the banking legal framework and provided advice to the SBV leadership on legal reform projects. From 2018 to 2021, Giap held the position of banking and finance account manager at BGA Vietnam where he advised clients on public policy and government engagement issues as well as facilitated their business activities.

Giap has a Bachelor of Law from Vietnam National University and a Master of Public Policy from Australian National University.
